@commerciallydazzling Because building up an entirely new brand is more expensive than repairing the image of one that has an "okay" image!
There should be a strategy for Buick and Caddy, but there isn't one yet (not that I know of). Like I said before, we figured it out and will it to GM soon.
The conversation and strategy is too long and too detailed to fit into a simple YouTube message board of 500 characters. We talk about this stuff all day long on the GM Authority podcast and website :)
@commerciallydazzling Fact: the LaCrosse IS NOT an Opel. It was developed to be a Buick first and foremost. The Regal, however, is. The current strategy of Buick and Cadillac is... that there isn't a strategy. They haven't figured it out yet. But we at GM Authority have: make Buick a pure luxury brand and Cadillac a performance-luxury marque. Very easy, but expensive.
What is GM"s current strategy? Sell european and asian cars rebadged as buicks and chevy's? Why not buy a japanese or german car and skip the middle man?
"Nope, you're still off." as a whole of north america, maybe, but americans are getting shafted 'cause the discounts are still here in Canada. Lacrosse(opel), Regal(Opel), why not drop the buick name and just import opel's? Would make more sense than what they are currently doing investing in new tooling for a lackluster brand.
@commerciallydazzling Bottom line of what? Pontiac is dead - the G3 is an Aveo (aka Daewoo Kalos) made in Korea for pennies on the dollar. Even at 8k a pop, they're making a profit on it, especially given that the costs of the G3/Aveo/Kalos/etc has been amortized almost 6 years ago, including tooling. Who cares what a product that's no longer in production sells for? The point is that you need to look AHEAD at GM's products and strategy, not bitch and moan about old products and shuttered brands
@commerciallydazzling Nope, you're still off. GM's North American executive team announced last month in their Q1 conference call that their incentive spending is at its lowest In COMPANY HISTORY.
And you're still off by saying that they've been making the "same cookie cutter junk for decades." Have you seen any of the launch products? LaCrosse? CTS? Cruze? Equinox? You should read gmauthority [dot] com to keep informed, that way you don't pan the entire company and look stupid doing it
@luftology you do the same....! gm.ca they are giving those vehicles away....Trucks get up to $8k and cars right now are up to $5K. So, you are not arguing that GM has been making crap cars for decades, just that americans are not getting the incentives Canada is?
Ever since filing for bankrupcy, GM has been cutting back on incentives.
As for Pontiac, you do understand that the brand is done with, right? GM shut down Pontiac last year! Right now, they're giving huge discounts to ger rid of unneeded Pontiac inventory - that's why you're seeing huge discounts.

I am aware Pontiac has been sent down the river, but offering a G3 base model for $8,995 must be hurting the bottom line.
