Char was the best until Amuro awakened as a newtype. Once that happened, game over. Amuro would destroy any other pilot from any series in their best suit, and he would do it in a ball...

char he became a soldier to avenge his fathers death and stop the rain of the zabi dictatorship and in doing discovered enlightenment of newtypes and believed that they would bring about a new age of humanity
he tried to guide the world as a hero to that path of everyone being newtypes but when that failed
he decided that he would become the villain to ether bring about the age of newtypes or destroy humanity in the attempt
