http://CloseQuartersCombat.com/ - Edged weapon defense starts with reading a knife attack. How an attacker holds an edge weapon tells a lot about how to defend against a knife attack in a real street fight self defense scenario.

  • but a non experienced knife fighter (like me), sees a person with the ice grip, what should he do, run or fight (knowing that he will die or get injuried), but if you run he can throw the knife. Another question why do people start shaking when someone has a knife and that person is pointing the object towards you in a mode that he's going to attack?

  • @TheBardh98 - Run! If you try and face the threat, you're likely to get cut and the danger is much worse. Besides, if you're stabbed from behind, your body has more protection (also see my video on "Golden Martial Arts...Multiple Attackers).

Also, the reason why people "shake" when threatened is your body's natural adrenal response to danger. This is often referred to as "fight or flight" response and is your body's way of giving you extra strength to either escape or fight back. Use it!

  • 1)

There is so many ways to disarm a person with a knife without taking his weapon away.

I´ve got a little knowlege how to fight in a reverse grip & it does not mean that the person holding the knife like that will attack you in icepick way

  • @407sport - as in all street fighting, there are never any guarantees of anything. Being trained with a knife (as you are) is different than the instinctive way that non-trained criminals (95% of them) will attack. If you view real knife attacks from untrained criminals, even when they start out underhand, if they go into full on "attack" mode, they naturally switch to ice pick because it's easier and more effective. No thinking or training involved.

    Thanks for the feedback!

  • Ice pick grip or not. You don't need to be worrying about whether the guy is going to use it or not. You don't need to ask, "Why do you have the knife?" You know why he has the knife, to increase the amount of trauma that he can cause. Period, that's all there is to that. Most knives are rarely seen and most generally felt. You may be in a knife fight before you know it. You always assume they have a knife or at least accomplices and you make your decision based on that assumption. Always.

  • @GBlues1 Great points GBlues1! You're right...ALWAYS assume your attacker is armed. Escape is key because what you may think is a fist fight, could quickly become a knife attack, multiple attack, or someone takes out a gun and shoots.

Quickly cause trauma and get the hell out of there.

Thanks for your input and advice!

  • So basicly.. Youre fucked .well thank YOU mr jeff anderson

  • Thanks captain obvious.

  • That video literally showed nothing. The guy's got a friggin knife! Break his kneecap wether he plans to use it or not. You never know what he's gonna do.

  • That was stupid obviously anyone with a knife has intentions to use it. And even if most don't some are. I thought video was going to show how to defend against these grips.. totally useless video.

  • Just for show, ha??? You're a funny guy. Knife is a knife regardless on how you hold it my friend!!!

  • @TheBardh98 You've got to be a good knife thrower to be able to hit the other person. Plus if you miss that attack, the person that is running away could pick up the knife and start attacking you.

  • @cqctraining Hey, I was wondering, on the topic of the 'fight or flight' response, What are some tips to deal with that, to maintain as much control as possible

  • Dont fear knifes people its only effective close range and sometimes medium range. and its just an exstended arm with a sharp metal point and edges. If you have combat experience then not to worry. but if you have no experience what so ever then just defend if you can and alays aim for the victims jugular with a strike. or if you can run. Then run with your head down in a zig zag motion because it can be thrown at you as well.

  • So, how do you defend against it?
