She sings "Jodi aro kare bhalo baso". I think it should be "Jodi ar kare bhalo baso". There is a difference between "Aro" and "Ar". Isn't it? Aro means more, but Ar means some one else. There is a singer who sings "Ar", and she is right. However Bengali spelling is same, but pronunciation will change the meaning. Let me know, if I am right.
@IdentifiablePerson ~ Devotional songs are especially potent from the lips of a pure devotee, regardless of the singing ability. Professional singers may sound melodious, and may even express emotion, but if they are not themselves pure devotees, their delivery is detectably hollow and empty. Devotional songs are for the benefit of the supersoul within the heart. They awaken our spiritual consciousness. Only genuine feelings can do that.
@WarzSchoolchild Great connections! It will be good if you document these connections and the knowledge of your grand parents some where, so that future researchers can access them. You never know what people will find from them.
I did not mean to hear songs from Tagore's voice. He was not a singer.
@dilir1 Rabindra Nath (RN) knew how to write poems, he also knew how to give sound to his poems, but he was not a singer. Sound has an important connection to nature. Nobody can give sound to his poems, better than RN. Let someone sing and give us that specific sound that RN wanted us to hear. I do not want to stop anyone from giving any other kind of sound to his poems, let people have freedom. Am I clear now?
@IdentifiablePerson ~ Check out:- "Tagore Song Sung by Rabindranath Tagore Himself "....I love the comments!....many say that he sounds like a 'street beggar singing'. Both of my gradfathers knew Rabindranath Ji. my paternal grandfather "Bobby" was A.D.C. to the Viceroy of India, and "Francis" was chairman of the Co-Operative Society and Tea Planters Association. Ha!-ha!-ha! many great saints have been 'street beggers' accepting only the smallest coins, (so that more people could be blessed!;?D)
You sound puritanic! Rabindranath will heve to be born again! Really cant agree with you. Yes voice is important as well as gayaki... which may vary from person yo person. NO?
@dilir1 - Yes I like their songs also, but they are not Rabindra Sangeet (RS). RS is the one that Rabindra Nath (RN) has designed. I would like to hear RS from persons with god given voice. Who can be better than RN? It takes lot of meditations over many life times to become RN. Through his songs and sounds we also want to learn how to meditate.
Her voice , presentation, quality of singing , every thing is superior , only thing I wish is for her not to hold the lyric in her hand . Thanks for posting such a classic .
@satyaki91 - I think West Bengal should create a reference version for every Rabindra Sangeet according to Rabindra Nath's own standard. May be there is such a thing from Shanti Niketan. No one should deviate from such strict rules. You can change the Indian Classical music, they are design to be that way; but not the Rabindra Sangeet.
