@neuregel starojitski left out an important step. 1:57 he clicked on the plug in to show it was installed and it highlighted blue. With it highlighted blue click on "customize plugin" button below (this was not shown in video). type in your kindle's serial number exactly how it reads on your kindle. I put all zeros instead of O's and it works. this is what worked for me. hope it helps you guys out as well.

took 4 to 5 hours to get this to work. finally got it with the newest version of kindle for pc, from amazon site and the newest version of calibre 0.8.39. I was able to download my book from amazon to my laptop. It saves the book file in "my kindle content" folder in document folder. I bring up .azw book file in calbre, plug in my nook and it convert file from kindle format to nook. Its a ccna exam book. skimming through really quick appears all the pics and tables formated perfectly.

The tools work fine with the latest (as of January 2012) Kindle applications if you get the current tools that are linked from Apprentice Alf's blog.

UPDATE: i just got it to work, apparently you need specific versions of the softwares. this is what worked for me:
*KindleForPC-installer_v1.01 beta.exe
*calibre-0.8.0
*K4MobiDeDRM_v02.8_plugin.zip
Good luck to anyone else trying this

has anyone ever gotten this to work again? i did a couple of months ago but i cant seem to do it anymore even though i am using the older versions of the software

Thanks for this, got me through it after a long time banging my head against a brick wall with other instructions. Note however some changes have to be made to get this to work with current versions of Calibre and Kindle PC. There is no longer a “Plugin file :” text input field. Instead use Load plugin from file bottom left. Will not work with later versions of Kindle PC. Instead download version 1.0.1. Which you will find available if you Google it

I used Calibre version 0.7.35 which can still be downloaded from Calibre's website.
I am sure there is a way to fix it. Go to Calibre's forum and there you will get help. Success
