The 3rd Annual Walk Against Weapons sponsored by Women Against Military Madness and Alliant Action was held on Saturday June 5, 2010. This video was taken as the group completed a three mile walk to the Eden Prairie-based headquarters of Alliant Techsystems, Minnesota's largest weapons producer. ATK manufactures large and medium caliber munitions (shells) employing depleted uranium penetrators; the rocket motors for many military missiles, most notably the Trident II nuclear missile. ATK is the largest supplier of cluster bombs and the largest supplier of all sized munitions.

The "Power of Song' was with the group who found it easy to sing peace and social justice songs and walk at the same time. It turned out that Pete Seeger's "Bring 'Em Home" song with its pertinent lyrics about the fallacy of weaponry was playing just as the marchers arrived in front of ATK and it started to rain.

  • It's most common use now is as shielding which is insulated over it to protect it from releasing harmful levels of radiation. The protest does not bother me, it is the right of those people to be heard. Just keep in mind the demand for these products is what breeds their existance. ATK makes what is asked of them, they do not decide what is in demand. This protest would be better served at the grounds of buildings which demand the product, and not the company which performs the work.

  • Most of the DU used these days are for density purposes. In all reality the only people that know for sure if it's being used for it's superior performance as a dense metal, or if it is releasing toxic levels of radiation for the purpose of harming the enemy, are the same people that will smoke screen it's use. Yes it has been used as a penetrator for 25 & 30mm rounds in the not so distant past, but there have been many advances in technology that have allowed for that use to be halted.

  • Who knows, maybe this protest is "friendly fire". There is depleted uranium being used in US weapons manufacturing. If your process is secret and you can't prove you are not making these insane weapons, and if angry protestors ruffle your feathers, why don't you help us pinpoint the target better. This has to stop.If you don't know about these weapons, search DEPLETED URANIUM IN THE HUMAN BODY: Sr Rosalie Bertell, PhD

  • I get paid to perform certain jobs in relation to the production and distribution of small, to medium caliber ammunition, to satisfy military and other government contracts. I am not paid to carry out any sort of corporate, or investor propaganda. There are no links to send you since all of our government work is strictly, 100% confidential in terms of volume, ballistics, and lots. You can, however, look up MSDS information on any of the products that are used in the manufacturing process.

  • chubbycbs,, why don't you enlighten me with some links you consider reliable references to what you say. I already found a lot of articles explaining what I shared here, and also know people working in military hospitals who were witness to handicapped young soldiers pressured to sign nondisclosure agreements in exchange for medial care, so I err on the side of caution. You may be paid to think what you think, that's no carrot on a stick to me.

  • @VJnumber1

Do you have any idea how DU is processed, handled, or what it's use is by ATK? Obviosly not, since your statement is completely false. Uranium that has been handled by ATK is not used in the armament products. False assumptions only make you look foolish.

  • Come on people if their guns are bigger there wont be a "land of the free"

  • According to the Military Toxins Project, Depleted Uranium (DU), the radioactive byproduct of the uranium enrichment process, is "roughly 60% as radioactive as naturally occurring uranium and has a half-life of 4.5 billion years." The United States has in excess of 1.1 billion pounds of DU waste material. SO, this company is dumping some of the waste into arms which will give cancer to our soldiers and the people we are supposedly "protecting". Genocidal madness.

  • Be thankful that the men and woman af ATK work hard to supply our armed forces with the finest technology on the planet. War is not glorious but at times is neccessary, and when battles are fought don't you want our military to have the best equipment available? From complete military weapon systems, to armor, and a complete line of small to large munitions the products of ATK protect our country overseas and at home! God bless our military and police forces for protecting our rights and freedom

  • GET A CLUE PEOPLE. The foe is the elite few at the top who see human beings as a plague to be exterminated (so their children can have all the resources). These eugenicists promote:

cancer-promoting viruses in vaccines given to children,

depleted uranium munitions (UF6 dust is BOTH toxic AND radioactive) to poison both the American troops of today and the groundwater Iraqis will drink for all generations to come,

Unnecessary H1N1 vaccines for pregnant women knowing miscarriages will result,
