Rogue Wave

Pat Spurgeon needs a new kidney. The soft-spoken drummer for SF rockers Rogue Wave had his first transplant in 1993. After 13 years, Spurgeon's kidney has started to deteriorate, placing him on a dialysis machine. Pat and his bandmates, along with friends Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), John Vanderslice and more hosted a benefit show at the Independent on September 30th in hopes of finding a donor and raising awareness. So far, Spurgeon has noticed that the community outpouring has been nothing short of spectacular. "There is a music community in the Bay Area, this is an example of that caring. People are giving their money and time," says Spurgeon. "There has been a really strong art/music scene in the Bay Area for long time. Right now it's really strong... And it means so much to me."

Nah, he'd have gone down in '08. His approval ratings varied from the mid 20's to the low 30's for the last bit of his presidency. He won by the skin of his teeth in 2004 when his approval numbers were still hovering in the high 40's and low 50's.
