But the Gardner engines didn`t sound as good & the drivers said the rolls engines were better at climbing hills.

definately a gardner, south yorkshire re-engined some late on from rolls royce to gardner and they sounded like this.

Am I correct in thinking that many Chester Dominators when new had Maxwell gearboxes and sounded like Leyland Olymnpians with Hydracyclic gearboxes?
