Robbers attacked a convenience store clerk and then fled with cash as stunned customers watched.
The suspects hit the clerk with a hammer and the cash drawer during the 12:30 a.m. Sunday robbery of the 7-Eleven on Brockton Avenue, police said.
There were customers in the store, making this even more brazen, Police Chief David Majenski said.
Two customers were waiting in line and two others were in the store when the suspects walked in, the chief said.
One suspect went to the coffee- making area and made a cup of coffee while the second man went behind the counter and hit the clerk on the head with a hammer, Majenski said.
Then the second suspect with the coffee threw the coffee in the clerks face, jumped over the counter and a struggle ensued, he said.
The suspect who threw the coffee then hit the clerk in the head with the cash drawer, he said.
Two customers who were at the counter were pushed over for the suspects to do all this, the chief said.
The suspects then fled.
