Wow. Amazing story!

You're right, it's scary to think of how many people must have a potential for a real passion for something, but they just haven't realized it.

Let me tell you something. I was on the other side of things a bit. I was voted most intelligent and most likely to succeed. Mainly because I was really good at math. You were always that intelligent, but you weren't motivated to learn certain things in the way your schools tried to teach you. I'm sure that you could learn whatever you needed for those tests, but you would have found a way to learn those skills in a way that suited you. Most people probably don't learn the best sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher. It's great that you shared your story. I admire what you did, and I hope I can do something similar someday.

(Continued comment)  You see, math for me is like language for you. I had a passion for it. Learning about math for me is like listening to an interesting story. But just bc someone isn't good at math, it doesn't mean anything. It just means they don't care about it. Look at you! You're obviously very intelligent. All this language learning makes it clear. Also, there are people who are good in school but when you talk to them they are full of bs. They don't think about what they say.

Great story. Not stupid at all. We all have a high school crush who caused us some pain. I'm gay and live in Kansas (not a good combo). I fell in love with a straight friend of mine and he found out and wasn't pleased. Recently, I started learning Swedish after discovering how open minded the Scandinavian countries are. It has been amazing to connect to that culture and talk with people outside of the bible belt. Your story was inspirational to me and I appreciate you sharing it.
