This is the proper way to check the bolt gap on your HK type roller-delayed blowback rifle.

The following details are from various HK armorer's manuals.

The maximum range for the HK91/G3 rifle is 0.1 - 0.5mm. (.004 - .020")

The ideal range is no less than .25mm and no more than .45mm. (.009 - .018")

Standard rollers are exactly 8mm, and each size roller is larger or smaller in diameter by 0.2mm.

Each size roller set changes actual bolt gap by .1mm on an MP5. I assume the effect is the same on a G3, but I have no evidence to positively confirm this.
