Can cain be used to crack this password? or is rainbow cracking a whole different thing?
-
Unless you know how to setup rainbowtables, no. You can't old-school bruteforce it, way too complicated.

@CorvetteBG RePS: I tried many many things, nothing works, not even changing it's directory, it either says it's an unknown command most of the time or it says it's a wrong directory, when i am pretty sure the directory is right.
Help anybody?

Hey I'm new to all this what could you (hypothetically) do if the .htpasswed did not work and it required a user and pass as well

I just got to say I like the way you handle these videos. At least it's not another stupid "do as I do" video, and you explain things very well. Good job
Norton says Johntheripper is a low risk what should I do?

@ChocoPocoToffee Delete Norton. It's a bad AV to begin with... but any antivirus is going to detect JTR as a hack.tool or variant.
I'd look towards Kaspersky, ESET, or Avira for an antivirus... Norton is just... bleh. I'd ultimately consider making a switch towards Linux, where no AV is requires (maybe a HIPS in certain instances).

The hash decoding is impossible on a mac... I can't install things on my computer and I can't compile binary... any other way?

@Killjoyxtrm Check out haxme[dot]org and maybe check out my paper on recursion... it could be of use when creating a bruteforcer in any coding language.
