I started my day off in Joliet, on the UP Joliet Subdivision. Amtrak train 300, a northbound Lincoln Service train, was my first train. Notice the anti-Cubs fan at 0:08. He saw my Cubs hat and decided to give me a "Cubs suck." Amtrak NPCU 90218 is leading the train, while Amtrak P42DC 127 is pushing at the rear. 9:13 A.M.

Wanting to head further south, I made my way to Gardner. Amtrak train 302 was my first catch in Gardner. Amtrak NPCU 90225 is in charge, while Amtrak P42DC 30 is pushing at the rear. The train is moving at a restricted speed, due to it preparing for a meet with train 303, a southbound Lincoln Service train, just outside of town. 10:59 A.M.

Shortly after 302's passing, 303 came into sight and picked up speed very quickly, after leaving the siding. He hit the detector at Milepost 62.8 doing 17 MPH. Less than a mile later, he was up on me doing...lets just say faster than 17. Amtrak P42DC 129 is in charge. 11:11 A.M.

After Gardner, I headed to Mazon for some BNSF Chillicothe Sub action. I only saw one train, but I wasn't at the tracks for very long. That one train was a westbound stack train, powered by BNSF Dash 9-44CW 5258, BNSF SD70MAC 9451, BNSF Dash 9-44CW 4956 and BNSF Dash 9-44CW 782. 1:49 P.M.

After Mazon, I headed home for what I thought was going to be the rest of the day. While sitting at my computer, I turned my scanner on and heard the CN Desk 1 RTC (CN Joliet Subdivision Dispatcher) talking to the BNSF 8201 north (M GALGYI). The dispatcher and the 8201 crew were discussing when the train would be able to get onto the CN at Joliet. Right off the bat, I knew that 8201 was a Santa Fe Warbonnet SD75M, so I grabbed a couple things and I was off to Lockport. Thankfully, Amtrak 307 had to head south through Joliet first, before 8201 could move. I arrived at Lockport with plenty of time to spare. The train was delayed a little longer at Joliet, due to a Metra train. After a while, the train rounded the corner with the SD75M treat and BNSF Dash 9-44CW 4744. 8:38 P.M.

  • Brew Crew fan hoping for another playoff season this year. Good stuff, Glad to see Amtrak at least saved some F40's for Cab use!

  • St. Louis is going to be hard to beat. Hoping the Cubs can sneak by and win the division, if not, then the Wild Card. Milwaukee definitely has a good team.

  • Wow. I beg to differ, the Cubs are pretty good. Awesome video!

  • Yep, now we just need them to get a decent lead in the Central.
