This is my second Mugen video under my new account, and another tribute. This time it is for Reu, who just passed away on November 23 of this year in a tragic boating accident. My heart, mind and soul go out to him in these troubled times as I type these words in sadness.
I am already well aware of his death. I have read several news articles and seen a few video clips on the subject, and am truly and greatly saddened to see him go. Reu, even more so than the legendary Elecbyte, was one of the longest-lasting, enduring and influential pioneers for what our entire Mugen community basically is today. I use "pioneer" in many senses:
1. He was the FIRST Mugen creator to create AIs that utilized the ability to perform vastly intricate and difficult-to-execute combos, besides just Aerial Raves (Sander71113, Orochi Herman and The Necromancer were also pivotal figures in this field).
2. He was the FIRST Mugen creator to create an original character (Dragon Claw) that used entirely custom and tailor-made compressed 3D/CGI special effects (all of the Melty Blood creators that were around before him can just step off home plate and leave the field; he was the first to do so on a personal, and MUCH more eye-pleasuring, level).
I always liked Reu's style of making chars, no matter what I may have said in the past. He didn't make them enormously strict, tourney-topsy-turvy and difficult to chain with. He gave them a very enjoyable freestyle flow that maked it easy for even the most novice of Mugen players to get used to them quickly. Because that always seemed to me what Reuben was about. He was always the fun-loving guy. He didn't get into scraps with any of the people who were calling his chars "crap." He didn't have beefs or problems with anybody. He didn't do this for accuracy. He did it so people could just lay back, relax, and quickly kick butt. Unfortunately, these tendencies of his showed up in full effect in his CPUs, so many people began to criticize his creations for it.
In retrospect, it was fully undeserved. Reu ignited the fuse of the evolution of the very FIRST two evil Shoto creations in Mugen, way before any new/recent (some are rather old) jacks like P.O.T.S., Gargoyle, Vyn, Don Drago and any CvS2 edits joined the party boat. He was the original prototype/blueprint for what they are all doing nowadays (at least those who haven't retired, like CvS1 conversion king G).
And, on one final note, Reu will always be in my top ten list of favorite Mugen creators, in my top five for Shoto edits, and #1 when it comes to making beautiful, inspirational musical pieces.
This match features the Evil Duo going up against each other, with the same settings as the previous video: the default life settings have been upgraded to 300%, and both opponents duel for the entire length of the video at maximum power. I used one of Reu's most inspirational songs ("A Piece of Heaven"), IMO, because I felt that it accompanied the fight well and the sorrowful environment of a dark battlefield in the evening.
All matches are AI battles on Level 8, unless otherwise stated.
I'll take any request matches you want. Just PM me, and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible!
Great Tribute to Reu, he shall always be missed among the MUGEN community and will forever be in our hearts. And once again, this was a wonderful tribute.
