Dynamite song from 1964, the height of Brel's career. He creates a character who lives in rebellion against the church and most everything. At his last supper he eats priests, sings obscene songs to nuns, invokes Nietzche, trashes (most) women, the middle class, orders up fine food and wine, and makes himself king of his hill. Pure punk except for the last verse when the hill sinks and he admits that beneath the bravado was fear. Thanks to MeroveeG of France and intigfx of Belgium for consultations about this translation.

I really like this song of Jacques Brel. Used to listen to it when I was a kid. Love the passion he puts behind his songs.
