Setting up two Behringer BCF2000 mid control surfaces to work side by side in Cakewalk Sonar 8.5 Professional, using Mackie Emulation Mode. Windows XP.

Step by step guide. Text overlays are included of all the steps taken so you can pause the video and read the instructions if needed.

Initially provides 16 channels of midi control for faders, pan, mute, solo record. Once in Mackie mode, the controls can then be reassigned for other banks of tracks and additional function control. The video doesn't show these different functions of Mackie Mode, but only how to set it up in the first place.

As the Behringer manual is quite confusing, I'm sure there is much I do not understand. Some info I present might be irrelevant - but I'm just showing what my units are set to and this happens to work. Fortunately, there is a good tutorial or two available elsewhere on the web to show how to use the different functions offered by Mackie Mode.

  • I no longer own the Behringers so I can't test it out, but from memory I'm 99% sure you just press one or a combination of the buttons together to reassign the faders to busses.

No, I don't think it does ignore the midi tracks. It's one fader per track as you list them, no matter what the track type. I got around this by labelling the midi tracks well and dragging them away from their corresponding audio tracks, making them the last tracks in the list.

    Hope this helps

  • Hi, thank you for this video, it helps me to save a lot of time!

But why the hell did Behringer develop no own software to the bcf2000 within the four buttons switching to seperate areas for chanel 1-8,9-16,17-24,25-32???

My Korg mini version can do such basic things...but it have 9 faders instead of 8 ;)

    Ok, thanks again from Germany,

    Michael

  • @migebonn

Great question! I'll let Behringer answer that one : )

  • I just added my 3rd bcf2000 and I'm having problems with saving the settings. I'll have them set to 1-24 and they will function fine . However, when I shut down Sonar, the next time it opens, it reads 1-8. How could I save my settings ?

  • @YoungScoob714

Sorry, not sure of the answer to that as my Sonar always opens up where it left off. I also have a Tascam FW1082 which I use for a 3rd and that occasionally loses' it's sync with the computer (i.e. the firewire connection is lost) so I have to reboot the unit and remind Sonar of what it should control. Other than that though, this is not no problem that I can relate to or advise on.

  • I don't have this product but from the excellent way you explained it, I may purchase 1 or two of these babies!!! Than you Mr Bloke (ha ha) for giving such an easy, understandable view of this product with Sonar!!!

  • @donLtv07 You are welcome. Thanks for the comment

  • Two questions if you don't mind.

    1. Can you set them to busses instead of tracks?

    2. Does it ignore midi tracks? (I often have midi tracks along side audio as I don't use the new instrument track type)

    thanks

  • Great tutorial. I used it to get my 3 BCF2000s working with Sonar.

I would never have sussed out how to do it else. Many thanks for saving me much hair-pulling :-D

Now if only I could get my BCR2000 to play ball in the same way :-\

  • This was exactly the tutorial I needed !!!! It worked out perfectly on Sonar 7. I woouldn't have figured out how to go about doing this on my own. There is nolthing in the manual that covers this type of set up. I am so gr8full. Thank you so much !!!!
