In North Vietnam John McCain was shot down when he ignored his orders to attack one target and went after another target which was not a threat to the USA. The target John Mccain disobeyed orders about was a meeting of the leaders of the five biggest Vietcong gangs- that would have saved many USA lives and shortened the war. If John McCain had not been captured he would have been courtmartialed and shot by the USA.
