7-19-08 Here's a video I pieced together of a recent hike to Mt. Islip in the Angeles National Forest.

@nealshireman Yeah, it looks like Caltrans has zero interest in opening the highway despite spending some $47 on rebuilding the 4.5 mile section of Highway 39 that will reconnect to Angeles Crest Highway which they're currently working on.
Why spend $47 million on Highway 39 when they don't show any desire to actually open it? It seems strange unless they just want the work.

@NotSoOldHippy I don't think that they are ever going to re-open crystal lake, every winter storm destroys all of their previous work :/

The Trailbuilders are scheduled to do trail maintenance on Islip, Little Jimmy, and Windy Gap, hopefully before Crystal Lake re-opens this year.

actually the station fire didn't burn this high up...at least some of the higher elevations were saved. : /
