Okay, so I promised a while back that I would post the completion of the flight to ABQ on here. I hadn't had the time to do it. But better late than never. This is part 1.
Only to the East. From the West there is just a gentle slope, but it does hide the city. The first time I flew into ABQ was at night and 40 miles out I couldn't see the city; I thought something was wrong. I carry 2 GPSs on board and both said the city was ahead of my and ATC was already giving me my decent. Sure enough, about 20 miles out the city appears. But, mountains are really only to the East. If you take the tram they will point out the remains of an airliner that crashed into the mt.
