Starting in the early 1960s, Die Mainzelmännchen cartoon shorts have appeared on german television as bumpers. This compliation was made from '80s german tv tapes, though the clips could be even older.

  • Hi, I lived in Germany in around 1987-1989. I remember some of these bumpers. I was wondering if you could help me identify another bumper. All I remember is a blue fish shaped character with a little antenna shape on the top of his head. Thanks!

  • Hmm...no idea about that one. Maybe someone else viewing this page will be able to help though! Cheers.

  • Hi again! I'd love to have a copy of this clip as they are the original Mainzelmaennchen like what I saw 35 years ago, but all those offered on eBay are more "modernised" and not as good, I think!

  • Hey, I'm going to put a downloadable version of this comp online. It won't be DVD quality, but should still be quite good. I'll send you a link once it's up. I've been getting a lot of requests for this!

  • Thank you!! These are among my FAVOURITE characters, but totally unknown in Britain. Why? Insular, anti-European attitudes here, unfortunately.

  • You're welcome. I've never seen them here in the US either, so I'm happy to spread the love. Cheers!

  • me gustaron mucho estos enanitos, que ingeniosos los que los crearon......

  • I'm studying German, but I'm a little rusty at it still. Are these guys actually saying anything, or just making gibberish noises?

  • @siskavard Oh, I know this caracter. He's called "Uncle Otto" (in German: Onkel Otto). It was the caracter for the hessian television division of the"1st German television". If you type "Onkel Otto" into Youtube you can see some full comercial breaks and also short clips.
