A comparison between an actual demolition of a skyscraper and the collapse of the world trade centre. I also throw in some basic structural ideas for good measure. The column buckling load decreasing by a factor of four (for double the length) can be any support conditions with the ideal euler buckling equation as long as the support conditions don't change. In WTC1/2 they could be considered fixed-fixed whereas in the little demonsration is pinned-pinned. Very basic I know but effective. A horizontal force turns a column into a beam with an axial force. The load is "obviously increased" as I say in the vid because the destruction of several columns would force a redirection of load. Any questions leave a comment...
