The Occhiata Foundation (aka Occhiata Productions is a 501 (c) (3) EIN # 26-2152984 established in February 2008 in memory of Maestro Theodore Gargiulo. We promote opera education in schools and support the production of opera by American composers.
This video chronicles our pilot program (beginning December 2009 and ending February 2010) with North County Middle School in Monterey, California. The foundation purchased a block of tickets for students to see the Live HD Metropolitan Production of Carmen. We gave six 45 minute presentations to approximately 600 students on Carmen. A busload of student went ot he opera, were treated to breakfast snack donated by Whole Foods and lunch from California Pizza kitchen. Video includes TV and newspaper coverage of the students reactions. Follow-up conversation and program impact are also included in the video as well as some general information about the foundation's mission.
