7F Gas Turbine Development. Power generation, designed in Schenectady and Greenville, South Carolina, this video is from the 1990's. See how the gas turbine works.
I work in Schenectady... I machine the steam turbines that mate up with this gas turbine... The biggest reason GE is the best... Everything is over engineered... All run outs on steam turbines, generator fields etc. must be with in .001 across whole rotor/field. Most diameters are plus or minus .002 not to mention 100+ years of building power generation equipment. Why would anyone buy anything else!!!
I worked on MS-5001 P's, MS-3002's, MS-5002-B units in the late '70's and early 1980's. I was one of the GETSCO guys who went all over the world to install and overhaul these units. The oldest gas turbine was a 5 bearing locomotive type installed in an oil camp for Ecopetrol in Colombia. It was a nicely painted generator drive unit. I also supervised overhauls on the 5 Chevron oil tankers powered by a frame 3 two shaft GT units. It was an adventure.....
Yes we still make the 7FH2 generators at GE in Schenectady. They are our second best selling generators behind our 324H design. I stack the punchings which make up the core that hold the stator bars in place inside these generators. I love my job. We make a hell of a product at GE and we all have alot of pride in our work. Maybe thats why GE is still the world leader in power generation.

GE will always reign supreme. Rolls Royce will never do everything as fantastically well as GE.
