Axl showed up at sound check
sporting a brand-new tattoo reading
Victory Of Death. The band had
bought a lot of new epquipment and
clothes with their advance money from
the record deal. Axl kept his money, about
$7,000, stashed in his boots while performing
that night.

Slash greeted the less-than-full house
that had turned out for the first show with
bitter irony.


SLASH: Full house tonight, right?


Guns N Roses fans wouldnt
come out to early shows if there
was a late show the same night, so
the audience wasnt just sparse
it consisted mostly of record industry
types who didnt make for the kind of
crowd enthusiasm and rowdiness the band
thrived on.


AXL: Hello. Everybody nice and relaxed?

DUFF: Welcome to our first show. Right when we got here
-- we were a little bit late -- we got pulled over by
four fucking cop cars looking for drugs. This song is
called ''They're Out Ta Get Me.''

DUFF: Welcome to the Roxy, Thanks for comming.

AXL: We're gonna tune these guitars.
We're got a show next weekend at the Whisky A Go Go,
and it's been a long time since we've been there.
We're gonna be playing with some good friends of ours.
Opening the show is gonna be a band called Faster Pussycat
with Taeme, and the second band is called Shanghai. I want
y'all to come down for that.


SLASH: Alright, this is something about a drink we all know
and love. This is a song dedicated to the band. It's called
''Nihtrain.''


AXL ( before ''My Michelle''): This song is for Tommy Zutaut.


XL: Get rid of the feedback.


AXL: Can you help us with that feedback up here somebody.
It's ringing like a motherfucker.


SLASH: So Roxy, what's happening? I know this place is
empty, but i've heard louder than that man. Fuck.


AXL: This song, means a lot to me. This song is called
''Don't Cry.''


AXL: This song is for the Music Connection.
It's called ''Back Off Bitch.''


SLASH: Alright, we're gonna leave you with one last tune.
This is someting about a little trip that we took.
I don't think anybody else has been there, so it's our song.
This is called ''Paradise City.''


This was the first time Paradise City was enhanced by a strobe
effect.
