Little By Little played on my Kimball Electramatic player piano. Composed By: DeSylva, Brown & Henderson. This is NOT the Oasis tune. It's from the 1929 movie "The Sophomores". Playrite Roll# 5779. Played By: Armand Muth.

I am not sure if there is a connection between this "Playrite" owned by Staffnote Corporation and the "Play-Rite" Incorporated which was located in Turlock, CA.

  • I'm still doing research on this song. It's composers DeSylva, Brown & Henderson were part of the "Tin Pan Alley" clan in the 1920's- 30's. Many of their compositions were written for Broadway musicals and movies. They were in competition with the likes of Irving Berlin and Harry Warren & Al Dubin.

  • Armand Muth was a genius.

Check out the MMD archives for more about him.

As far as I know, the old "Play-Rite" roll label was a brand name used by the Billings Roll Co. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (who also made "Staffnote" rolls). Two of the primary roll artists were Muth and Robert Billings, although other artists dropped in from time to time.

Muth was a talented jazz pianist, as this illustrates! His blues rolls are some of the best ever made by any white pianist.
