One of the recurring sketches in the Canadian variety show "Smith & Smith", featuring Steve "Red Green" Smith and his wife Morag. Twisted Rolls is one of my favourites, as it features a gender swap: Steve takes the role of Marian, a rather robust Scottish lady and Morag is Bert, her equally Scottish husband.

In this installment, Bert reacts to the news that Marian's mother is coming to visit.

  • If the Red Green thing didn't take off he could have been the Canadian Dame Edna, eh?

  • I have been a fan of the red green show for many years and it has always bugged me because Steve Smith has always reminded me of someone else but I could never figure it out. I have never Seen Mr. Smith any other roles untill now. Watching this I figured it out. He looks like and has the mannerisms of a singer I dearly love by the name of Ray Stevens

  • You can guage the run of the show based on the opening credits, too. First/Early was the Max and Davey intro, then there was "Don't Let It Get You Down", followed by "Hold Back The Water (Don't Let It Get You Down)". Then late run is "It's All Part Of The Fun". Just so you know. (:

  • As I recall the music of the first year had more of a 'country' sound. The later seasons focused entirely on the Smiths and their comedy.

  • The first 3 seasons were more of a typical music variety show of the time. The show opened with a comedy song, but the Smiths also sang current pop hits and a guest performer appeared and Steve would do one monologue

  • I assume that the second season started in the fall of 1978, and every subsequent season started the next year. So by the time season 6 came around it would have begun in 1982 and continued into 1983.

It's a shame the first three seasons aren't available anymore, as they were wiped in order to record the subsequent seasons. I'd love to have seen how it all began.

  • S&S began I believe in February, 1978 -- Steve mentioned it during one of the slide shows he did during the last season of S&S. He also stated in another show that season that there were only 13 episodes made that first season, the remaining ones had 26 (that gives the total number of episodes as 195).
