Racing Caterham vs £900 MX5 at Castle Combe

Some gentle track day action. I'm in a cheap and tatty MX5 (Eunos Roadster, 1.6 Mk1) and sharing the track with much faster kit. I'm starting to learn the lines, but don't really start getting it right until later in the day. However during this stage I managed to overtake a Racing Caterham (yes, he waved me past, I know... but it was because I had the pace...). The car is a manual fitted with Hand controls as I am a Right leg amputee.

Lap record for an academy spec Caterham (i.e. no mods, hard road tyres) here is 1:21.409. For an R300 it is 1:13.287. If you want to drive Combe quicker master the racing line and don't be afraid to use all of the track. Hope you are still enjoying trackdays with your car.

@R300Caterham I don't doubt it for a minute. I think the driver in question was being ultra cautious. I have since been out with an instructor and my lines are improving, but I still lack confidence through Camp.

Thanks for such a great upload - I've timed your laps (roughly) to benchmark my next trackday at Combe - I'm after an MX5 for it! - I made your laps 1.39, 1.38 then 1.34 - definitely quick on that last lap!

@Bid691 Good of you to comment, thank you! Please bear in mind I'm not as quick as I could be as the car is standard apart from my hand controls, which also slow me down!

@Bid691 Also forgot to mention, I never really mastered Camp. If I get that corner right i would be a lot quicker, and good choice with an MX5. I don't think there is a better drivers car for the money.

Good effort, never done a track day myself, but that looks ideal as you pretty much have the track to yourself to learn.
