@atgn70 one of the more shameful aspects of the NHL at the time of Orr were all the deliberate attempts to go after his knees. Another dismal aspect was the way Boston management contributed to shortening his career by leaving him on the ice for long periods of ice time after the game was already in the bag, and of course this left Bobby Orr just that much more vulnerable to the cheap shots.

Well in French his Name is Gold.

days of straight sticks and as a result ....the back hand shot was so totally accurate... and man could he nail it ..

If he could have played in any decade, he would be the best player....period. 40's 50's, 60's, 80's, 90's, 00's,10's, 20's ...on and on he would go as the Greatest! Bobby Orr invented "The 5 tool player". Those that say Gretzky or Lemiuex are the best ever, have never seen Orr play. Even before, what should have been his prime years, he was better than those two. All you need is a solid 30 minute video on 'some' of Orr's best, and anyone would agree. And that's only scratching the surface.

i laugh at people who says that gretzky is better than orr. lol!

@BillieBobSmith - incorrect stats....and Stats tell only part of the story. If you knew hockey, you'd know this.

At the 47 second mark, when Orr takes off with the puck, that brief clip, at least to me, really shows how fast he played the game, and what it was like playing against him. Wow. Like someone said, he had 6 speeds of fast. That's the game being played at the highest level, those couple of seconds shows it all.
Seeing is believing. Orr was the best ever. No doubt.

You said it. I saw the Oilers live in Edmonton, must have been 1983, versus the great Islanders dynasty team. Oilers lost 6-4 (at home)and I certainly didn't even notice Gretzky on the ice. The more you see these clips of Orr...the crisp passing, bullet shot, the skating!...the team play, sacrificing his face to block a shot...the shorthanded goals....and then watch him fight....he even led his team one year in penalty minutes. Can we end this debate once and for all? It's Bobby Orr.
