That just sounds so weird to me as somewhat of a petrol-head not to have that strong shift and have the revs stay so high...

All of the people who think the Altima 3.5 with the CVT is slow should go test drive one because it's totally not! I test drove one, and i love taking off at lights with the torque pulling!

That was more like a 0-80 run buddy. Lmao

Like this car a lot, the engine sounds great too. Only reason I got a Legacy over this was for the AWD, CVT is great when you get used to it.

its slower than an auto z with the same engine. The cvt may seems fast but its really not. All it does is make the car more economical.

@123IOWNALL321 Yea I think a transmission that automatically adjusts to the engine's peak torque and horsepower range is a very good idea - it's the concept that isn't always implemented well tho.

CVTs, in concept, should be superior to any other system because no power is lost from having to switch gears. Also, you can stay in the car's peak RPM range in the powerband to get the most out of the engine. But the problem with CVTs is that they slip and thus can never engage completely, similar to automatics.

@CyberdyneProductions DSG, Getrag, all those dual clutch systems are good if they are the high end ones, the civilian ones like on the smart have a huge delay. And they more parts by far than CVT. =) but i do admit CVT does feel weird cause the engine just stays at max

@otoakki Thanks. Yeah I understand how it works but it just seems WAY too different and IMO might cause wear on the engine that is unnecessary for it either stays at that high or low rev range. Double Clutch works just as effectively because it allows for almost constant power to the wheels, but it's heavier. And that wasn't the only reason it was banned from F1 haha, but good points.

6.8 seconds to 60 mph
how do you keep it one gear? I've got a 2008 altima se sedan

@maybenotjosh It's called a CVT Transmission. if you have an 08 model, u should have CVT too. How it works is rather than having 5 or 6 gears for the transmission to run through CVT optimizes the power from the engine into which gear it knows to be best for how ur going to drive it without going through a sequential gear order. Instead of 1st gear 2nd gear, 3rd gear, it can go 1st gear 6th gear or 5th gear 6th gear. it's quite ingenious. Hope that answers ur question.
