What really makes a racist? I think there is a marked difference between someone who makes an off-the-cuff remark (albeit a very bad one) and someone who genuinely dislikes people of other races and discriminates against them in other, more subtle ways? I genuinely believe that Ron Atkinson falls into the first category and although his comments were well out of order, I genuinely don't think that he hates people of other races.
