  • adwlife215, please stop by our class any Thursday and instruct us the right way. This invitation is good for any Thursday.

  • Hello Justforkhadijah, we Philly Bop to many different song, oldies, jazz, blues & R&B. We just perfer the smooth songs for this dance. Are you in the Philly area?

    Checkout our website oldiesinphilly

  • I did some research and was shocked to discover that the Bop WAS different in diff. locations. This one was totally diff. from where I lived in the west. I thought what "we" were doing was the real thing. As a teen we were so proud that our Bop was nothing like the old swing and jitterbug steps as seen a bit in this...but hey, I've discovered that I was wrong. Bop is whatever it was in your area! The fun of it is what matters.

  • @inyomusic can you post a video of your style of the bop?

  • @inyomusic In Washington, D.C. & Baltimore, MD, the Bop is a Slow Dance with a 1-2-3 Count, side -to-side, in-&-out.

  • @esquireyes Yes, you are right I discovered. (see my later post). I can't find a video anywhere that shows the way we bopped in California, but it was no way like this one. But I can understand with this way being done on American Bandstand that those that did it would think it was America's Bop. Not on the West Coast...but even here, I would bet diff. areas danced it differently.

  • This is not the Bop please get it right!

  • Hi, Dose anyone the Philly dog ! That was a Philly dance also.

  • @CrashOverideHTP Yeah...at first I thought they just didn't "know" how it was really done. Didn't know it was diff. in diff. areas. Can't find any videos of the way "we" did it. It totally doesn't look like the Philly Bop at all. And no holding hands or contact w/partner. It started out with each foot sliding up to the toe of opposite foot (heel raised). But if you were really cool, you began to step that foot up and did all sorts of variations and moves...and it was usually fast.

  • @inyomusic Thats really interesting, I was just thinking, "this isnt bop", until i read your comment.

  • @inyomusic But so many kids began to dance Philly style because that is what we learned watching American Bandstand. It was all a little faster than these folks are dancing, but the Philly Bop became America's dance.

  • I just heard about the Bop dance. Is it supposed to be that slow? Somehow I imagined it would be faster.
