Have you ever wondered, where did the Finnish Metal start it's glorious voyage ?

Hard Rock Sallinen was founded 1975 in Kauhava, and was probably the first Metal band in Finland ( Music had lots of Hard rock tendencies though ) [Sarcofagus was first Finnish Metal band to record in '79]. Hard Rock Sallinen recorded "Lets make love/Solong my friend" Single in 1980 through Rockit and "Heavy Metal Symphony" full-length in 1982, through Zero label. Band also recorded live albums in Rock Rallye '77 and Provinssi Rock '80.
The band didn't apparently have such a big influence to the finnish audience back then and after Hard Rock Sallinen came to it's end after their full-length, the bands members did not continue with any new projects. Still this band can be considered as the first milestone in the Heavy Metal History of Finland.

This song is the title and opening track of their 1982's "Heavy Metal Symphony"

  • "Would you happen to have the original vinyls of this band or perhaps the lyrics of the songs?"

I have the original vinyl, and there is no lyric sheet. This is the best song from the album in my opinion, but the rest is really not very impressive. I think HRS are more a curiosity rather than a "forgotten classic". But of course a part of Finnish Metal History.

  • Well, the word "forgotten/ legendary classic" is so often used that it has lost all it's meaning anyway. But I ,myself ,have to say, that for me it was a really positive surprise. It gave me much more than I first expected. Ofcourse other Finnish bands of the same era like OZ, Sarcofagus, Ironcross or Riff Raff probably deserve this classic status more than this band. Nevertheless, it is incontrovertibly a milestone band in Finnish metal and a part of the Finnish Heavy Metal history.
