@spits32 Not only if you're British. It's true in the U.S. and all English speaking Countries. This is Elementary English grammar. Children are taught such basic rules in school, before they are 12 years old.
"An" always precedes word starting with a vowel .
"A" always precedes a word starting with a consonant..
HOWEVER, the exact opposite is true in Ebonics.
For example:Using "A" instead of "An", and visa-versa is correct. Ebonics speakers have no clue how ignorant they actually are.

A historic is ok as well as An historic. Both are commonly used. Stop trying to be smart-arses.
