The drop in skating now is a result of the 6.0 brand being dropped. Those of us who are hardcore fans will still watch b/c we love the sport so much, and have studied the new code of points. But the average tv viewer has no idea what the scores mean now. At least with the 6.0, there was some fun in watching the kiss and cry, and also booing some of the absurd, bloc judging. Now you have to wait to read the results to see how the judges decided. It's not helping the sport.

Torville and Dean obviously were extremely popular, but skating on TV increased SO MUCH internationally b/c of the scandal.

Ice skating grew popular because of Torville and Dean not because of Tonya and Nancy. Sorry Americans it was the British that inspired us!!!!!!!!!

Wow. And the controvery hasn't ended. Tara vs. Michelle and Tara suspicious "going pro", 2002 Pairs controversy, the whole medal mess with men's skating and Evegeny Plechenkos's quad NOT beating out Lysasek, wardrobe controversy. Pew! I wonder how much longer we will be able tothink of skating as this respectable, elegant sport.
