  • Ok, i am on a high calliber horse now and am working very hard to go to Louisville, KY!!!!

  • @macadoodlerules Good luck! I hope you make it to Louisville! There is nothing like riding in Freedom Hall.

  • I dont' mean to offend any one or anything like that but, they have a barn of saddlebreds across teh arena from where I ride and I think the whole subject is an un natural and maybe cruel thing to do to a horse. i have watched them train the horses and I have looked in the stalls. They have harnesses on all night, chains on their feet, tails held up and hobbles on their front hooves. Why would you do that to any one. Plus, they are loud and on pourpsely scare the horses!

  • animalLuverify: Yes, it is unnatural. But tell me what disiplin is actually natural? Saddlebred are trained differently than say a jumper or a western horse, but they are just as hard on there horses. It is not natural for a horse to jump 5 plus feet, or a reiner to spin, or a quarter horse to hold there head as low as they do in pleasure. Saddlebreds don't have hobbles on unless they are being made to stand still or such. They are called shackles....

  • Which build the leg muscle in the horses. This extends there action. Many world class trainer don't even use shackles! It really depends on the horse and what discplin they are being used in. For the chains, they actually help the horse believe it or not. Many gaited horses need help when being trained to keep a steady gait. These are used on many other gaited breeds. For the horses in the stalls wearing chains, they probably paw or kick. So once again, it is for their safety.

  • Now for the tail sets, I do agree that this can be harmful. I don't 100% agree with the cutting of the tail and the tail sets. But it really doesn't harm them. For the loud noises, it is critical that saddlebreds are entertained! Yes we will use baggy whips, fireworks, fire extinguishers, the works. But when we show, there are loud noises everywhere! We want these guys to be prepared, and they honestly love this too. These are the peacocks of the show ring and they honestly love their job :)

  • @animalLuverify the only reason they have chains on their feet in the stalls is to prevent them from kicking and injuring themselves especially during feeding times.

  • It never fails, that some one is gonna bitch and complain and say Saddlebred training is cruelty. Those horses are taking very well care of. They are peackocks of the horse world, They are just enhancing what is natural to them. fine something else to complain about.

  • Haha thanks!!!

  • @Saddleseatlover their gaits are not "Unatural"

  • I love saddleseat it is so much fun

  • @StacyL24 Yes, I do agree that they do put on the shackles to build up muscle, but the humans have a choice of putting them on and they get to decide when to take them off. Like when the shackles get irratating the horse can't take them off. The training is alot diffrent. In racing they run around a track, jumping they do their own program. I do also agree that the jumping might be harder on the horses legs, but the saddle seat might be equaly as hard.

  • @animalLuverify Me too :)

  • @animalLuverify Actually, the training is no different than if a horse were being trained for jumping, eventing, racing, etc. In fact, I think jumping is harder on a horses legs. If it's the "chain" like rubberband thing they put on (not sure what they're called exactly) that's not cruel, it helps the horse build muscle and it's like a human athlete putting on weighted gloves or leg wraps. But, to each their own:)
