Hitchens believes a certain intensity of totalitarianism demands to be addressed aggressively, with the option of military intervention always at the ready; and that anyone who disagrees is either unusually callous or has no idea what it is like to live under such conditions; and that it would be better that hundreds of thousands of lives be lost to break up the worst of these kinds of regimes than that people should be hopelessly left to continue living under them. I tend to agree with him.

@greatsea but success isnt contingent on the morality of the matter,which is where i disagree w him.Trying to impose some model revered&amenable in a certain part of the world onto another can prove very disastrous,its just the sort of anti-postmodern ethos that's endemic after 911,the one-size fits all solution.Despite our best intentions, humans are really bad at the execution of goodwill;its interesting hitchens can be so right on religion in that respect,yet myopic to it in fpolicy

@greatsea I've come to understand his position better as I read more of his work. But I don't know if I can agree with the invasion of Iraq, I am open to new ideas but this is one of the few cases where I disagreed completely with him.
