We go back to March 10, 1973 at the famed Madison Square Garden bowling lanes for the $75,000 BPAA US Open with $7,500 going to the winner. Now here's the introduction to the exciting field of 5 bowlers...lets join Chris Schenkel and Billy Welu for the introductions....

(thank you to Mike McGrath via Mike of RI for getting the recording to me)

(stay tuned for the rest of the tournament)

  • I was wondering if you have any info, video from the 1965 Firestone tournament of Champions in which Billy Hardwick won.

  • @buffalorobbie unfortunately I do not. :(

  • Nice a tournament shot in black and white.

  • I think it was broadcast in color. This archive was probably converted from a reel to reel, which was in B&W.

  • WOAH! Kakcpa will you be posting the matches of this telecast? I would love to see them!!

  • yes, look for them soon...it's a great tournament!

  • wow...Mike McGrath...

Never got a chance to meet him, but an old friend, Len Nicholson, always spoke highly of him.

Nice to see Mike bowl...or at least throw a shot!

  • Does anyone out there who watch theses tornarments what was the name of the opening song of the pba tour

  • My uncle Donnie! he's number four in the intro. the lefty.

  • Dick Weber wrote the best book on bowling I ever read. PDW won the Open a bunch of times. Must run in the family.

  • don johnson i don't know the second guy, gus lampo, don glover, matt surina, barry asher, johnny petraglia

  • Earl Anthony: the Machine.

  • That would be a great event. Can you imagine how much wear and tear there must have been on those pros hands at the end of the event. Their fingers and palms must have been a bloody mess. Too bad we'll never see footage from the "All-Star"

  • Chris eluded to the fact that that broadcast was in colour at 4:53. I hope somebody can get the 'in colour' version of this. I was born in 1971 and B&W makes me feel older than I am.
