Atop of Volcano Agua Guatemala

The end result of a five hour hike is this amazing panoramic view above the clouds enjoy. I highly recommend hiking boots on this one(which might seem obvious to a real hiker)but not to somebody who might think they are going on a leisurely walk for an afternoon(which this isn't)

We took our chances with a guide who wasn't armed.

We went up in a group of 9 with 2 dogs(seen in the video) bottled water and packed lunches and didn't think more than twice about it.Up until recently Acatenango was the one with the bad reputation not Agua

As a general rule of thumb don't take too much cash with you and no expensive electronics that you can't afford to loose.You could always hire a guide for the afternoon also.I am sure for a couple hundred Q you could hire an armed escort .

Can you tell me anything about the safety of hiking Agua..or how to do it safely? I have been repeatedly warned NOT to hike it because of the bandits in the hills. I'm wanting to just do it anyway. What is your advice?
