HubSpot engineering / marketing quarterly desk shuffle, May 2011

Every 3 months the HubSpot engineering and marketing teams, which sit mixed together in our office, do a random desk shuffle.

We have a diagram of the office, people pull desk assignments out of a hat in random order, and all manner of trades are allowed. As the team grows over time, it leads to a fun (and somewhat chaotic) atmosphere.

There are two other nice side benefits: you get to sit next to new people, getting to know them better. And you have to clean out the junk on your desk once in a while, which benefits everyone.
