Cuckoo Chaos - "Just Ride It" (live session)

little-videos.com

Hot off a buzzy tour with Anna Calvi and some blog-y love for their single, the boys from Cuckoo Chaos came through town for a quick one-off at The Californian's Monday night Satellite Residency. We met up at Downtown Rehearsal, they rolled up all crammed in one surprisingly small van (for having gear, five members and two groupies to boot). Needless to say it was brutally hot outside, and thus even more so inside, but everyone was in generally chipper spirits (and being from San Diego, dressed appropriately for the weather -- ie, this would have been a bad day to film a band whose thing was wearing three piece suits or pea-coats).

Turns out these guys are just about the nicest dudes ever, not to mention they can churn out dance-y pop numbers with catchy harmonies and three-part guitar hooks like it's their job (oh, wait maybe it is their job). Definitely looking forward to the album, which rumor has it will be out in September on Lefse.

  • @Seashows Not sure. It's super groove orientated, dancy and tropical sounding. I'm not really hearing the same rhythms as Vampire Weekend, or the sophistication of Grizzly bear. Maybe dismemberment plan (not sure if you're a fan, but they're incredible), or the maybe even the Talking Heads.

  • @extremelybusy123 Who would compare their sound to most then? I think it makes complete sense, they have that reverb drenched tone of Grizzly Bear laced with a that upbeat surf sound that Vampire Weekend bring to the table. Just my opinion anyway...

  • @Seashows I'm guessing you're saying Grizzly bear because of the tone of that bass, I think you're way off. And maybe Vampire Weekend because of the picked-out guitar riffs. I don't know...

  • @Seashows You and the guy (or girl) that thinks this sounds like Incubus should get a cup of coffee and chat about how bad the two of you are at referencing similar sound bands.

  • love the sound of that snare.

  • Riob

  • These guys should be called Grizzly Weekend. Massive Grizzly Bear and Vampire Weekend fusion. It's nice.

  • Very cool, different sound. Sort of a mellow Incubus, Train-ish vibe

  • great fucking song.

  • found these fellas thanks to HTC's Slacker Radio app.. :) like it!!
