WOW. I am learning this concerto right now, and seeing the effort with which he plays the section 2:26-2:48 makes me want to cry! Such an amazing cellist.

Effortless passion... I mean, this man is so in tune with his instrument that he must've come out of the womb with it! (jk, I know he didn't start cello until 10yrs)
But WOW... he makes it look easy and it sounds just fabulous!
And I disagree about all genres sounding the same. His baroque is very different from this which is much more romantic and fluid.

Great technic. The man was a beast. But my opinion is that he played all the pieces and all the composers in one way.The interpetation of Baroque, classical and romantic music sounds not much different in his mind.

Forgive me, but I respectfully disagree. If you watch and listen to any of Rostropovich's Master Classes, you will learn much more about him.

I agree with minorSI.. I think that you dont have to watch any Master Class of any musician to understand how he/she understand the music he/she plays ^^ . And Rostropovic makes feel the way minorSi says

I agree with you. This speed I could imagine going with something like his Haydn Concerto he played (I know that's not really baroque) or Mozart or Handel or something... I agree, this should have been a bit slower. Don't downrate this comment, this is merely my opinion.
