I composed Reynosa in 2007, performed here on classic (nylon stringed) guitar in 2011.
This piece is dedicated to my father, Jeremy Mock, who purchased his first guitar at the age of 38 in 1963 in Reynosa, Mexico for $12. He had been discouraged from practicing music as a child by a doctor concerned that it might exacerbate his deteriorating vision. In the 1970's he fulfilled his life-long dream to learn to play guitar by studying with Maestro Manuel Lopez Ramos, an Argentinian living in Mexico City. He and my mother taught music for many years, publishing a guitar magazine called Creative Guitar International, and teaching their three young children to play. The Mock Family Guitarists toured Europe in the 1970's as a quintet.

Julian, this is beautiful music and such a tribute to your father. I imagine him listening to you playing this for him.
