Dane Phelps; Outstanding Human Being and Raven Pilot

Possibly the single greatest privilege of this job is the opportunity to meet great people from a broad and diverse background. At one point I attempted to do an "outstanding human being" series. I didn't get far, but this is one of my better offerings.

If I was in the military, that would probably be my MOS, its basically what I do on the weekends for fun, except for the search for IEDs and route surveillance! Seems like a good gig in a bad place.

One of the greatest things about Dane was that he didn't seem to mind where he was at. FOB McHenry wasn't exactly what you would call prime real estate even for Iraq, but he made the best of it and made my short time there a litte better too.
