I agree, there are some issues with overblowing and some intonation problems, but to me it feels so raw and filled with emotion that it all works together to be amazing :)

all tutti at 4th movement and the finale chords are TOO FAST!!! know there is danger to gallop through this very dynamic music but good conductors know how to avoid without lost this great temperamentally mood - recommend comparison with performance by Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks conducted by Mariss Jansons here at YT, too

@topiaz951 Solti or Reiner? To be honest though, there is a rawness here that I find perfect for the piece. Overblown, yes. Intonation problems (to say the least of articulative mistakes), yes. Uplifting, emotionally excessive and heart-on-the-sleeve...yes, so I'll take it ;)

@SirSebastianWang
Because he put things like "parodies" in it. The second part, for example, is a peasant's dance, which was totally unusual to put in a symphony at Mahler's time.
The third part is actually a funeral of the main character. The audience did not know whether to laugh or to cry about these parodies and abnormalities.

chicago symphony orchestra being my favorite orchestra because of the brass power...i have to say that this is no to pleasing to the ear, mainly because it feels like the brass is just trying to play loud all the time. their are times to be super loud and times to get out of the way so melodic material can be heard.
