Sounds like an arcade game :P

i believe it is doing that because it is on its side. those drives are meant to be stood up. probably wont do anything now though its jacked

Are we hearing a Maxtor?

This is why a redundant backup is a must, no matter how high quality (or low quality) your hard drive is. Anything less than duplicate data storage in a remote location is a reckless gamble.

that is the lovely sound of a dead Maxtor hard drive. that sound believe it or not is produced by the spindle of the drive itself. if you open the lacie enclosure up, you can just stick a new drive in there and it'll work assuming the board on it accepts the size.

judging from how you handled the hd, it's no surprise it failed..

dual maxtor diamondcrashes in there..... musical ones do NOT buy maxtor. you WILL see all your data go bye bye. stuck spindles on both

Jusr buy a westrn digital drive and transfer everything over.
This is simple, It makes that beeping sound for a reason. Its to warn you that it's about to take a shit.

Hey that's what I did :). I got a 2.5 inch HD enclosure with a Western Digital 160GB for backup storage. I trust WD will take good care of my data ;)
