Ray Sandoval: "Folk Tales"

In 2004 Ray received a grant from JUSFC and lived in Tokyo, Japan to embark on a personal project entitled Folk Tales. It encompassed tracing his mother's life and learning about his family's history in Japan. Shortly thereafter his mother fell ill and Ray had to discontinue the project and move back to Tucson, Arizona to assist her. After his mother recovered, he spent several years abroad working on this project on and off. He is now close to completing Folk Tales in its entirety.

Ray's next recording will include this song, also entitled Folk Tales. This composition was directly inspired by his travels in Japan but also reflects the time he spent with his mother in Tucson. The song also draws on Ray's travels through Spain and his time in the Middle East after his mother's recovery. In fact, much of the composition for Folk Tales was done during his time living in Jerusalem.
