This slide show has been posted for education purposes. Ban Chieng is a site in North-Eastern region of Thailand, commonly known as Isan or Isarn. The site is estimated to be around 4,000 years old or more. The people at this site were cultivating rice and working with metal ( to a very high standard ). The metalwork technology used there was far ahead of China or the West. Modern history books tell us that the Thai people migrated here from China but the finds at this site show that people (indigenous Thais ?)were living here long before the period the history books talk about. The museum was excellent. The designs on the pottery is clearly seen and the pots were placed around the dead bodies then purposely broken! All The bodies are buried facing a S-E direction but no one was able to tell us why.
