Old Pathetic Video!... I am putting together my first movie clip montage whatever you call it. This is my lame attempt. Pardon the sniffles..... Ive got the flu and was banished from the house so I dont spread my scunge to the rest of the family. Bummer, I guess I have to go out and make an arrowhead.
Im trying to relearn how to use abo tools to make an arrowhead. I started knapping with abo tools but didnt actually learn how to make a decent point till using copper. So now I am reverting to stone and antler to use my new found skills to make an arrowhead the old way.

  • love this video Dan! And that point came out great. I have a question regarding fletching an arrow. Do you find there is a good all-around length to make you fletching. I realize weight and strength of arrow shaft, might affect its flight too. I was wondering what your thoughts were on the issue of feather length. Thanks!

  • @TheTribeOfBenjamin #1.... Im not an expert at archery..... or anything else for that matter! But, at this point of my archery journey, I make my fletching short enough that it doesnt hit the handle of the bow when I have an arrow at rest on the string. (if that makes sense) Fletching too long buggers up the feathers. So it is about 4 inches or so. It varies too with the arrow. I dont make things cookie cutter like.. Thanks

  • Thanks, Im glad you enjoy. I have fun making them

  • If you make a slight score line about a 1/16 to an 1/8 inch deep with your stone tool where you want your antler to break and then hit it or just snap it........works great.

  • Check out my other video called:

"Primitive Breaking Scored Antler with Fire"

You're right, that does make a much cleaner break. The heat might help with breaking a more precise spot on a tough antler. I scored an antler right where the tine is attatched and even with pounding on it, it didnt break. Id like to try it with heat now and see if that helps. Of course if I do, I'll tape it.

  • There's a number of kinds. Dacite and obsidian even porcelain toilet tanks or glass bottle bottems. Also jasper, agate and many different flints. Anything that produces a conchoidal fracture such as the cone on a windshield when you shoot it with a bb gun. paleomanjim here on youtube has a great series on beginning knapping. Check it out.
