Animation of the Cascadia region. As the Juan de Fuca plate is subducted beneath the continent, magma forms in the Cascade mountain range causing the expansion of the active volcanic arc. Deformation of rock around magma chambers can also cause earthquakes to occur.

  • When you look at this closely you can see how the actual fault is angled and the Pacific Plate is underneath the Juan de Fuca plate. It would make for a shakey ride for everyone east of the trench... would be nice to also see the tsunami animated here... thanks for the info
