http://breakbumper.tv Zev Mo takes a look at the Samsung Captivate from AT&T and the Vibrant from T-Mobile.

As for the lag that I discussed:
I should have said filesystem problem, rather than touchwiz.

The lag is because Samsung uses a proprietary RFS filesystem. Until Samsung fixes this, there is a workaround that creates an ext2 filesystem on your SD card which creates an I/O buffer to stop the lag.

This "fix" will not really be used by the average consumer, so until Samsung fixes these two issues, I am still very impressed by the hardware, but they are a no-buy for me.

  • I guess they fixed the lag issue before they released.. I have The Samsung Vibrant and I have had none of these issues at all my phone runs fast and smooth, I love it.. Best Smart Phone you can get right now and with the Android 2.2 coming out in oct it will be even better. I use my phone ALOT texting, games all kinds of apps and it seems to handle everything.. The Display is the best and TouchWiz3.0 works very well on top of android. Battery life is at least 1 day + and thats with non stop use.

  • @battl3fr0nt Good to hear it! Overall the phone is designed well and the hardware is more than capable.

  • "... Once they fix this ... "

any ideas if, when and how they will fix it?

  • @flyingDman No word as of yet. I'll reach out to my Samsung contacts to try and get a better estimate.

  • Its not the Touch Wiz wrapper that is the problem. It is the I/O interface, specifically the file partition on the internal storage. They are using a proprietary RFS file system rather than the standard linux file partition.

  • @ConceptVBS You're right. I should have said filesystem, rather than touchwiz.

I'll throw the link in the show notes for the temporary workaround until they release a complete update.
